In 2011, Barbara Galletly, former 826LA volunteer, editor and book lover, started a reading series and then moved to Austin to study Library Sciences.

In 2012, Zoë Ruiz picked up where Barbara left off because she loves stories and community and likes the idea of combining them by curating.

This is READINGS, a reading series in Los Angeles.

Featuring an awesome line-up of lovely Los Angeles-based writers that includes:

Sarah Balcomb
Amina Cain
Jessica Dewberry
Lisa Dusenbery
Chris Terry

DJ: Beth Martinez

MORE ABOUT YOUR READERS

SARAH BALCOMB was born in New York, grew up elsewhere, and received her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. Her short fiction has appeared in dozens of literary magazines, she has worked at major art museums and small literary nonprofits, and has taught creative writing in public high schools and at the university level. Her first job, at the age of 15, was at an independent bookstore. She is the co-partner of Pop-Hop, a creative retail space merging a bookstore and print studio in the Highland Park.

AMINA CAIN's most recent book is Creature, a collection of stories put out last fall by Dorothy, a publishing project. Stories and essays have appeared in BOMB, n+1, Puerto del Sol, The Paris Review Daily, Two Serious Ladies, and other places.

JESSICA DEWBERRY’s work appears in the Los Angeles Review of Books, Mutha Magazine, and other places. She’s an assistant nonfiction editor for Pithead Chapel, a copyeditor for Midwestern Gothic, and a mother of three. She is currently at work on what appears to constantly change shape: first, she thought it was a prose poem collection, then a short story collection, then a memoir. Now she’s convinced that somehow, it’s all those things and looks forward to transferring the confusion onto publishers once her opus is complete.

LISA DUSENBERY is a former managing editor at The Rumpus. She grew up in Saint Paul, studied at Pomona College, and lived in the Bay Area before moving to Los Angeles. A lover of sentences and stories, she is working on sharing her own.

CHRIS L. TERRY’s debut novel Zero Fade (Curbside Splendor) was on Best of 2013 lists by Slate.com, Kirkus Reviews and the American Library Association's YALSA BFYA. He lives in Los Angeles.
