Sun 9/19 – 8PM – BOOK RELEASE PARTY! – You Already Know @ La Cita

It is that time: the release of our second title, You Already Know, by Aaron Henne.

Yes, it is true we haven’t put out a book since George W. Bush was President, but we like to take our time and make sure the book is perfect. And, we promise, we won’t wait for another presidential change to release our next title!

SO

please join us to celebrate Aaron and his wonderful book at the most awesome downtown joint, La Cita.

Sun 5/31 – 6 PM – Tongue & Groove – AARON HENNE

Our author and well-loved playwright/teacher Aaron Henne will be reading at the great Tongue & Groove this coming Sunday.

Although we’ve had to push the release of his book back a bit, Aaron is one of the hardest working people in the biz.

So do come and check it out. To hear him and also to hear the other fantastic writers (I personally am very excited about hearing Evan Wright).

See you there. Click picture for better view of info.

Andrew Choate @ Tongue & Groove – Sunday 4/19

A writer that we are HUGE fans of will be one of the readers at Conrad Romo’s Tongue & Groove event this Sunday.

We like Andrew Choate so much that we told him we’d like to publish his next book. To our delight, he’s all for it. He’s been working on the manuscript right now.

His work is incredibly unique and we love any writer, any artist, who commits to his craft so completely.

His first book, Langquage Makes the Body Plastic, was published by Palm Press. The book comes with a CD that includes Andrew’s musical renditions.

We are very excited and we have to figure out how to do the CD and such, considering the publishing service we use.

Anyway, for a better taste of what Andrew’s about, check out this clip of him reading “Home Depot Weapon”:

DON’T FORGET: Kim @ Skylight Books – Friday 4/3 – 7:30pm!!

Please join us at Skylight Books tomorrow night as Kim Calder does her final reading before leaving Los Angeles for Prague!

We’re so excited to have a reading booked at Skylight. It is probably the major independent bookstore (along with Vroman’s in Pasadena) around Los Angeles. Which means, we need to make a GREAT SHOWING so we can have more events there in the future and sell our books there.

Kim will be reading with Cati Porter, poet and editor of Poemelon.

Full info below:

Friday, April 3rd
7:30 p.m.

Fri 3/27 – 8PM – Black & Tan – Stories Bookstore

This is the first of the 3 final readings Kim Calder will be reading before she leaves Los Angeles. She’s really done quite of bit of work over the past year, promoting her work, participating in readings. It can get really difficult and tiring and we commend her for it.

So don’t miss her!

Friday, March 27th, 8 p.m. at Stories Bookstore in Echo Park, 1716 Sunset Blvd.

Kim will be reading with Karen Harryman, a Black Goat Press poet (now an imprint of Akashic Books), and here’s her deal:

Karen Harryman’s poems have appeared in Alaska Quarterly, Los Angeles Review, Poetry New Zealand, and the Cortland Review, as well as other print and online journals. Before moving to Los Angeles, she lived and worked in Kentucky for most of her life. Currently, she teaches English and creative writing at YULA, an Orthodox Jewish high school in Los Angeles. Auto Mechanic’s Daughter is her first book.

Stories, if you haven’t been yet, is a beautiful little bookstore that opened in Echo Park. They, like all small independent bookstores, could use our support.

~ Press Editors ~

~ Writ Large News ~

WLP interviewed on BlogTalkRadio

Writ Large Press was interviewed by Stacey Mangiaracina and Roy Johnston of “Between the Sheets,” a show on BlogTalkRadio. They wanted to know what our process has been in launching a small literary press and we read some of the poems from Kim’s collection.

The two hosts were really great, generous and supportive, and we’re looking forward to speaking to them again.

Come on in! We’re open!

Okay. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but we have finally opened our (virtual) bookstore.

Here’s the entrance. Come on in.

Once inside, you will see our entire catalog of books. Don’t freak out when you see only one title in this catalog, because we all know that it’s going to grow into something incredible.

We have the Proof

It’s here. It’s beautiful. And we’re excited as all freakin’ hell. Yesterday, we received the proof copy of Who’s to Say What’s Home from Lightning Source.

We spent a good amount of time going through the pages, checking for errors, and mostly staring at it from all angles. To paraphrase our dear friend Michelle in New York, it is beautiful and perfect. (Okay, there was one slightly misaligned page that we instantly corrected, but still perfect!)

LAUNCH DATE SET – Friday 5/2!!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Friday, May 2nd, 7 pm on. The Writ Large Press Launch. Kim Calder book release.

We just talked to a manager at La Cita and he says it’s a go. We’re going to have our launch and release party there on May 2nd. So mark your calendars and plan on joining us.

They’re letting us have the back patio of the bar at no cost, other than all the booze that people will be buying and drinking, on a Friday night. It will start at 7 and we’ll start wrapping up around 10′ish.
