The location search continues

We are in the middle of looking for that perfect place to have our launch party…and it’s not as easy as it seemed.

It’s a combination event, since it isn’t just us launching our company, but also the release of Kim’s book. So it needs to be a place where people can mingle, sip some drinks, party a little, AND where people can sit/stand and listen to Kim reading the great poems from her book.

In the past, while publishing Wednesday and all, we’ve had good times at galleries that provided the space for us. The good people who accommodated us before just loved being able to hold an event that would bring so many people from the creative community together. Allyson at Angela Hanley Gallery and Leslie with the Glu Gallery (both, unfortunately, no longer open) went above and beyond to help us and host us.

Of course, we know we can’t expect everyone, especially people we don’t really know, to be so generous…but still. We met with a gallery in downtown on Saturday to see what was possible. They had recently moved to a new space on Spring and we had a chance to go inside during last month’s Downtown Art Walk. It was large, beautiful, and very promising. Our friends had performed readings at their old spot so that’s how we decided to look into it.

The owner and the event planner were very nice. But the numbers they were telling us was just too, too much. Really, few hundred dollars, PLUS charging at door, PLUS bar tab guarantee. Possibly thousands of dollars. Um…

So that’s where we are. Still searching. Our friend Carrie has reached out to a friend with a restaurant/bar to see if we can have it there, but we haven’t even seen the space to know if it’s right.

A bit frustrated, but at the end of the day, still very excited and hopeful.

WLP interviewed on BlogTalkRadio

Writ Large Press was interviewed by Stacey Mangiaracina and Roy Johnston of “Between the Sheets,” a show on BlogTalkRadio. They wanted to know what our process has been in launching a small literary press and we read some of the poems from Kim’s collection.

The two hosts were really great, generous and supportive, and we’re looking forward to speaking to them again.

Come on in! We’re open!

Okay. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but we have finally opened our (virtual) bookstore.

Here’s the entrance. Come on in.

Once inside, you will see our entire catalog of books. Don’t freak out when you see only one title in this catalog, because we all know that it’s going to grow into something incredible.

We have the Proof

It’s here. It’s beautiful. And we’re excited as all freakin’ hell. Yesterday, we received the proof copy of Who’s to Say What’s Home from Lightning Source.

We spent a good amount of time going through the pages, checking for errors, and mostly staring at it from all angles. To paraphrase our dear friend Michelle in New York, it is beautiful and perfect. (Okay, there was one slightly misaligned page that we instantly corrected, but still perfect!)

LAUNCH DATE SET – Friday 5/2!!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Friday, May 2nd, 7 pm on. The Writ Large Press Launch. Kim Calder book release.

We just talked to a manager at La Cita and he says it’s a go. We’re going to have our launch and release party there on May 2nd. So mark your calendars and plan on joining us.

They’re letting us have the back patio of the bar at no cost, other than all the booze that people will be buying and drinking, on a Friday night. It will start at 7 and we’ll start wrapping up around 10′ish.
